Moss House & Moss Yard Student accommodation in Leamington Spa

Frequently asked questions

What is included in the rent?

Everything — heating, hot water, electricity, water and super-fast Wi-Fi. The weekly figure on each room is what you pay; there is no separate bill and nothing to set up when you arrive.

Can a group book a whole flat?

Yes. Moss Yard is six self-contained flats of five or six en-suite double bedrooms, and each is let to a group as a whole. Pick the flat on the Moss Yard page and press Enquire on it.

How long is the journey from Leamington Spa to Coventry University?

About three quarters of an hour door to door. Leamington Spa station is about 500m from both houses, trains to Coventry take about 14 minutes — 11 on the fastest — and Coventry University puts the walk from Coventry station to the campus at 15 to 20 minutes.

What is a Ready to Go package?

A move-in package waiting for you when you arrive, so the first evening is not spent finding a retail park. Each one has bedding, towels, a kitchen starter kit and toiletries in it. Collect it on arrival, or pick it up within 48 hours. It suits late arrivals, international students and first years moving in with their families, and we take group bookings, so a whole flat can arrive to the same thing. Ask when you book your room, or any time before you move in, and tell us which room you have taken.

How long is the tenancy?

Both buildings are let on a 48-week tenancy, which is eleven months. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can do.

Is there a direct train?

Yes. Leamington Spa to Coventry is a direct line, with around 48 trains a day on the timetable — roughly two an hour through the day. Check National Rail for the current times.

How much is a whole flat a week?

£845 a week for a flat of five bedrooms (Flats 1, 2, 4 and 6) and £1,008 for a flat of six (Flats 3 and 5), with all bills included. That is £169 a week each for five and £168 for six.

Can I move in with my friends?

Yes. Moss Yard is arranged as self-contained apartments of five or six, so a group can take a whole flat. Moss House is let a room at a time and suits a student coming on their own.

What is included in the price?

Everything: heating, hot water, electricity, water and super-fast Wi-Fi, and a Netflix subscription on the lounge television. There is nothing to set up and nothing to split.

When is the last train back from Coventry?

Usually around 10.40pm, and the first train out of Leamington runs before 5am. Late trains are the ones most likely to change, so check the timetable before relying on one.

How long is the tenancy?

48 weeks, which is eleven months. Tenancy agreements and bookings are handled through OpenRent.

Do you take single students, or only groups?

Both. Moss House suits individuals particularly well, and at Moss Yard one apartment is kept for individual students who are then placed together.

Is there a bus instead of the train?

The X18 runs between Coventry and Leamington — stopping on the Parade and opposite the railway station — about every half hour on weekdays. It takes around an hour, so the train is the quicker way; the bus is the fallback.

Is a 16–25 Railcard worth it?

For a daily commute, almost certainly. It costs £35 a year and takes a third off most fares, including at peak times. A season ticket is the other option for travelling every day; check the current price with National Rail before you decide.

Is there parking?

There are nine spaces at Moss Yard, with electric charging that is free to students and their parents, and racks for thirty-two bicycles.

When do groups need to book?

Groups usually have their flat for the following year by Christmas, and most by the end of November. The flats go to whoever asks first.

There are four of us, or seven. Can you still help?

Ask us — tell us how many you are and we will say what we can do. Flats 1, 2, 4 and 6 have five bedrooms and Flats 3 and 5 have six, and the flats go to whoever asks first.

Is there accessible accommodation?

Yes. Moss Yard has a substantial accessible bedroom and wet room in Flat 1 on the ground floor, with an adapted kitchen in that apartment. Moss House has an accessible bedroom and wet room on the ground floor. There is one of each, so please ask early.

Can I live with friends who are at the University of Warwick?

Yes — it is the most common reason Coventry students choose Leamington, which sits between the two universities. At Moss Yard a group can take a whole apartment of five or six.

Some of us are at Warwick and some at Coventry. Does that matter?

No. Leamington sits between the two: the campus bus to Warwick leaves from the end of the street and the train to Coventry takes about fourteen minutes.

How far is the University of Warwick?

About eight miles. The nearest bus stop is roughly fifty metres from the door and the U1 and U2 run to campus through the day. Leamington Spa station is about five hundred metres away.

Can I bring a car?

Moss Yard has nine parking spaces on site, with electric-vehicle charging free to students and their parents. Ask about a space when you book.

Are the bills included?

Yes. Heating, hot water, electricity, water and super-fast Wi-Fi are all in the weekly rent, and rooms start at £135 a week.

Can we see a flat before we book?

Yes, seven days a week by appointment — ring or send an enquiry. There is also a film of each flat on the Moss Yard page.

What do I do if something breaks?

Tell us. There is 24-hour emergency cover for anything urgent, and for everything else the sooner we know the sooner it is fixed.

How long are the tenancies?

Both buildings are let on a 48-week tenancy, which is eleven months. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can do.

Can postgraduate and international students book?

Yes. Leamington's quieter streets suit postgraduates particularly well, and our Ready to Go packages mean you can arrive from abroad with a suitcase rather than a shopping list.
