Student Accommodation in Warwickshire

Leamington Spa, Warwick and Kenilworth are the three towns most University of Warwick students choose between. Here is how they compare.

Warwickshire

The University of Warwick sits on the county boundary, three miles south of Coventry, and students spread out across south Warwickshire from it. Three towns take most of them, and they are genuinely different places rather than three names for the same thing.

The short version

  • Leamington Spa — about eight miles from campus. The biggest of the three, the most to do, the

most student housing, and a main-line station. Where most students end up.

  • Warwick — about eight miles, and about two from Leamington. Older, smaller, quieter, a little

cheaper.

  • Kenilworth — about three and a half miles, the shortest commute, and the quietest by some way.

What actually decides it

Three things, in this order.

  1. The commute. You will do it several hundred times. Ten minutes each way is forty hours a

year, and it is the thing students most often say they got wrong.

  1. Whether the rent includes bills. An all-inclusive room at £150 and a £125 room with bills on

top are much closer than they look, and only one of them is predictable in January.

  1. Whether you can walk home. It sounds trivial in August and does not in November.

Coventry

Worth mentioning because it is close and cheap: Coventry is about three miles from campus and has a great deal of student housing, most of it aimed at Coventry University rather than Warwick. Plenty of Warwick students live there. It is a city rather than a town, and the character is quite different from the three above.

Where we are

Both of our buildings — Moss House and Moss Yard — are in Leamington Spa, close to the station and about fifty metres from the campus bus stop.

Towns in Warwickshire

Leamington Spa

Leamington is where most Warwick students end up after first year, and it is where both of our houses are.

Warwick

Two miles from Leamington and about the same from campus, Warwick is quieter, older and smaller — and worth knowing about even if you end up living in Leamington.

Kenilworth

The closest town to campus — about three and a half miles — and the quietest of the three.

Coventry University

Most Coventry students live in Coventry, and we will not pretend otherwise. Leamington suits a particular kind of Coventry student — and if you are one, it suits you very well.
